The Victorian
Marine Forum
The Victorian Coastal Strategy (VCS) 2008 highlights marine ecological integrity as one of the three significant issues facing Victoria’s coastline today. The VCS identifies that the marine environment supports a wide range of highly valued uses which depend on the sustained ecological integrity of the marine environment.
The threats to the marine environment are not well understood and can go unnoticed. They include exotic species, physical changes to habitats, over-use and input or resuspending of nutrients, toxins and sediments.
With the growing threat of climate change, it is essential that we understand what the threats are, and how they can be managed. Informed by the best available science, we need to continue to manage threats in order to retain marine biodiversity while ensuring ecologically sustainable use of marine resources.
The Victorian Marine Forum aims to create a greater understanding of the marine environment and the seriousness of the existing and upcoming threats.- Invitation (PDF 352 kb)
