Release of the Victorian Coastal Strategy 2014

The Victorian Coastal Strategy 2014 was gazetted by the Minister for Environment and Climate Change, the Hon Ryan Smith MP, on 1 September 2014.

The Victorian Coastal Strategy 2014 (the Strategy) is the result of extensive research and consultation with stakeholders and the community undertaken over about two years. This is the fourth Strategy produced and it outlines the Victorian Government's policy commitment for our coastal, estuarine and marine environments.

Prepared under the Coastal Management Act 1995, the Strategy builds on the achievements of previous iterations in 1997, 2002 and 2008. The Strategy continues to provide a long term vision for the Victorian coast, a Hierarchy of Principles to guide decision making, as well as policies and actions to be delivered over the next five years.
